Oracabessa is located half-way between Montego Bay and Kingston, on Jamaica’s new Intercoastal highway. The highway is well-maintained and is in excellent condition. It is approximately a 1 hour and 45 minute drive from Montego Bay, and is a 15-minute drive from Ocho Rios. Immediately next door to Oracabessa is the Ian Fleming International Airport, which is a popular airport for private jets and is also used by charter companies for flights from the U.S. and neighboring Caribbean countries. Charter flights between Oracabessa and Montego Bay, Kingston, and Negril are also available through Ian Fleming International Airport.
The driving conditions in Oracabessa are very good, and it is easily accessed by Highway A3, which is a modern highway with passing lanes and illuminated markers for night driving. The north coast highway has the lowest per vehicle accident rates on the island, and is a safe, and easy way to travel between Oracabessa and other areas in Jamaica. For flights from Montego Bay or Kingston, we recommend a ground airport transfer, which can be arranged through any JUTA-certified transportation company. JUTA-certification is important since it is how the Jamaican government regulates vehicles and drivers to ensure that the drivers are courteous, knowledgeable and highly-trained, and their vans and buses are in top condition. JUTA-certified companies provide modern vans or buses, with regular or charter service to Oracabessa. One of the most popular companies for these services is Karandas Tours.
While there are many car rental companies located in Jamaica, we do not recommend renting a car during your stay in Oracabessa. Everything is very close by in Oracabessa, and if a trip to Ocho Rios or nearby attraction is required, it is much cheaper and more convenient to hire one of the many JUTA-certified taxis in the area.
